INTERNATIONAL CRICKET.
THE PROPOSED AUSTRALIAN CRICKET COUNCIL.
The followlngis the report of tho sub-commltteo
of the New South Wales Cricket Association ap
pointed to consider and report as to tho propriety
of an Australian Cricket Council being formed, for
the purpose 6f dealing with tbo matter of Austra
lian teams visiting England or elsewhere, und of
teams visiting the colonies
Having considered the matters referred to us, we beg
t6 report as follows >
1. That in our opinion the present system— or rather,
Want of system, in connection with the tours Aus
tralian cricketers, or of teams visiting tbo colonii-d,
should be controlled by a body representing the cricket
ing associations of the Australian colonics
2. That no team should be allowed to leave tho
colonies an a representative Australian tonra unless at
least the time fortbe proposed tour and tbe composition
of the team bo approved by aontu such representative
body.
3. That a cricket council, composed of representatives
from each association of the colonies, Bhould bo formed
as early as practicable, to whom all projected tours
In tbe future should be submitted for approval
4. That ifsbodt such as that proposed be formed, it
should endeavor to conclude arrangements with the re
cognised authorities governing English cricket, in order
tb secure mutual advice and co-operation, ana to bring
about an agreement by which teams visiting England, or
vice versa, should not be entitled to be deemed "rcpre-
seutntive unles3 duly accredited as such by the council
of the colonics or ' the' beroremcmioucd governing
authorities of English cricket.
5. The sub-cnniinitteo nre of opinion that some new
departure is called for : though not seeing their way clear
to rccommahd that tho proposed council should under
take or interfere with the necessary financial arrange
ments. Their knowledge of the working of the govern
ment of tbo post leads them to assert that it will be
impossible to secure a thoroughly representative team to
leave Australia, unless some such cricketing council, or
some other body, has power of control over the personnel
of the teiun. now that power is to bo and should be
exercised, will be a matter for the council to determine
by a properly formulated code of rules.
The Bub-commiLtee consider that u council would bo
undoubtedly useful in many ways, und that beyond
question It would give a standing to teams leaving thu
colonies, and would annum to visiting teams a certain
programme, and would hu the means of avoiding a clash
ing of intorerUK that were unfortunately the caiuo of ill
success on the occasion of tho visitor tnu last inytisn
teams.
Your sub-committee cannot conceive that tho forma
tion of such n hody could operate adversely to the
cricketing interests of the roiouics, but hclicva it would
estublinh a federation < J English and Australian cricket
that would result beneficially to the game at both ends of
the world.
