CREAM: OF I'AHOAMMT.
On Tuesday the Land Bill again occupied tht atten
tion of the Legislative Council. Mn Fellows moved
that- the amendments be referred to a joint committee.
Aftor'a long and animated debate, an amendment that
the house pass on to the next order of the day, was car
ried by a majority of 13 to 11. ? A committee was ap
pointed to ascertain if there were any parliamentary
precedents to justify the bill. being again brought beforo
the house. The remainder of tho business was postponed,
and the Council adjourned till Thursday.
' x-o Dusiuess was transacted in me legislative Assem
bly on Tuesday. On Wednesday a discussion took place
on the advisability of the exploring expedition starting
from Blunder BayrrFort Augusta, instead offrom Coop
er's Creek, but no definato result w«s arrived at. Mr.
Micholson stated, in reply to a question, that the govern
ment would do nothing with regard to the Land Bill
till they heard, the decision of tho President of the
Upper House as to its admisBibility for re-discussion in
that branch of the Legislature. On the motion ef Mr.
Mollison the government wcro authorized to expend
L1000 in arresting the spread of pleura-pneumonia
among cattle. The Volunteer Act Amendment Bill was
raad a second time and committed. Tho first clause,
providing for the enrolment of an additional number of
men, to be limited to 10,000, was. carried. Tho In
demnity Bill was read a second time, passed throngh
committee and reported.' The house adjourned till
tho next day. .
On Thursday, in the Legislative Council, the President
gave his ruling as to the diiposal of the Land) Bill, and
said that the consideration of the message of the As
sembly could be revived by notice. Mr. Fellowo aecord
Inglygave notice. The Beechworth Waterworks. Bill,
the Frontage System Bill, and the Fitzroy Ward Im
provement Act Amendment Bill, were advanced a stage.
The Imprisonment for Debt Abolition Bill was referred
to a select committee, and tho house adjourned.
The Legislative Assembly on Thursday resumed the
debate on tho report of the Tariff Committco, which had
been adjourned on the 14th of. June. After a discussion
of some length, the debate was further adjourned till
Thursday next, and the house was shortly after counted
out.
; On Friday, both houses adjourned, on account of the
death of Mr, Hodgson, the late chairman of committee
in the Legislative Council. ?
