This regatta came off rather suddenly, and certainly
most unexpectedly, last Saturday. O«ing to the want
of publicity, very 'few lovers of uqmtie sports were pra
sent, though tho quality of th« racing on tho part o I the
professionals was qui»o of the tir-«t water. The course
was from a flagpost just above thu Botanical bridge,
thence up the Varra round a buoy moored oil' Gnutcb
street bridge, and back to the Kichmond punt; the
sports commencing at hall-past cloven, and continuing
at short intervals until dusk. The etarts were effected
by tho firing of a carronndc, n second wns fired ns tho
first boat Das.tcd thu turn, nnd the ooomintr of n third
announced its arrival at the winning post. Crcinorne
gardens and tho several points of the rivix wero gaily
dressed with (lags, and a bundjof music in a miniature
ulmllop on tho river, lent its enlivening strains on the
occasion.

As nine had entered for tins, it wns determined to row
in heats of threo, the winning boat in each heat to row
in tho grand heat Tha first bent wua rowed by l;red.
Kitchie, G. Nickols, and W. Dunliur, nud after 'a good
rnco wiiS won by Nickols. Tho second heat wns won by
Lewis Prowse, beating J. Barroiv, and H. Laurence. The
third heat comprised Buckley. Nelson, and Tom Ward,
and wan won by the latter. Tim final Leu thus com
prised Nickels, Pronsu, and Ward, who enmo in in the
order named. All theso heats wero contested from the

Ritchie, beating Maxwell mid Ward.

Mr. A. Bishop and Mr. W.l'rocott were the only entries
for this. Mr. Bishop took the loml, which ho maintained
up to tho first turn, but through sume ini-oipprelicusion
he failed to go round tho buoy. Mr. Prescott went
over the prescribed course, and, though he camo in
second, tbo prize was nwarded to him

L. Prowbo, in the Unnamed.
