Valedictory
SOCIAL TO MR. A. SAUNDERS.
Mr. A. Saunders, whose lease of
the Cardinia Park Hotel has expired,
and who is leaving the district, was
tendered a farewell social on Thurs-
day evening, 4th inst. Captain Sur
plice,. president of the Returned Sol
diers’ branch, occupied the chair, and
explained that Mr. Saunders, who
was a returned soldier, and was a
vice-president of the branch, had al
ways been ready to help the move
ment in every possible way. Mr.
Saunders had also been connected
with the Angling Club, and he (the
chairman) asked Mr. Tbnks, as presi
dent of that body, to speak.
Mr. Tonks said that Mr. Saunders
had been the first secretary of the
Angling Club, and had been an active
member for some time. All regretted
Mr. Saunders’ departure, but wished
him every success, in his new sphere.
The Chairman then called on Mr. C.
Harris, a vice-president of the Sol
diers’ League; Mr. F. Fritzlaff, vice
president of the Angling Club;, Cr. S.
A. Greaves (also a returned soldier),
and Mr. J. S. Loveridge, who en
dorsed the remarks of the previous
speakers, after which Mr. Harris, on
behalf of the Returned Soldiers and
the Angling Club, made a suitable
presentation to Mr. Saunders, and
conveyed to him the best wishes of
his many friends at Berwick.
Mr. Saunders, in response, 'thanked
those who had spoken, arid those who
had taken part in the gathering, and
acknowledged gift he had received.
