Beach patrols under way
Patrolling of local beaches by life
saving dubs continued on the
weekend, despite the cool, wet
weather.
Chiton Rocks and Port Elliot life saving clubs
have now completed their proficiency exams
which must be taken each year by active
patrolling members.
Examiners were Algy Palaitis and Brian
Edwards, both of the Port Elliot Club.
Patrols, which commenced two weeks aao. will
be carried out on Saturdays from 1 pm to 5 pm
and on Sundays from 1 2 pm to 5 pm.
Chiton Rocks has two surf boats, as well as
small craft, surf rescue boards and inflatable
rescue tubes.
About 20 members took part in the examina
tions at Chiton Rocks on the weekend.
The club's bronze squad classes will kick off in a
couple of weeks and it is hoped this will boost
active membership.
A spokesperson for the club said bigger signs
were being erected this season and the patrols
would venture down to Dump Beach for the first
time.
The State's first senior carnival will be held this
Saturday at Port Noarlunga while on Saturday, a
board riding competition will be held at Chiton
Rocks.
Port Elliot Life Saving Club will send boat
crews, ski paddlers, beach relay teams and
individual competitors to the Port Noarlunga
carnival.
The club has 60 odd patrolling members, all of
whom undertook the proficiency exams two
weeks ago.
A change in this year's programme at Port
Elliot is that club swims will now be held on
Saturday afternoons at 2 pm instead of Sunday
mornings at 1 1 am.
