PAKENHAM
The monthly Court, held by Mr.
Down, P.M., and local justices, was
well patronised by the Shire Council;
over 50 rate cases were heard, and in
every case an order for the_. amount
claimed with costs was' made.
Mr. E. V. Jackson, who has been,
on a visit to Dunolly, has returned,
and is.feeling much better for the

The ranfall for the, month of Sep
tember was 333 point'sT.
The working “bee,” on the recrea
tion ground, on Saturday, was poorly
attended, only four workers' turned
up. Ifs wonderful the amount of in
terest which is displayed ip- this re
serve by Ideal residents. The idea of
the “working bee;” on Saturday was
to erect, swings, for the children; evi
dently this 1 wasn’t sufficient, induce
ment to bring the parents along.
A special meeting of the recreation
reserve committee was held on Mon
day night, to allot dates for the “Stars’
cricket club'and the Pakenham East
club: This was done to the satisfac
tion of the clubs concerned, several
dates being reserved for school sports
and amateur sports club meetings.
Fruitgrowers who have fruit in cool
store are now getting busy and mar
keting same. There are approximately
11,000 cases still in store.
Mr. Geo. Larke, an employee of
Mr. O. Smith,-blacksmith, was kicked
by a horse some time ago, fracturing
his arm. He is now about again.
Several little'jobs have been carried
put at the cool stores of late, but one
that is most important seems to be
consistently overlooked by the direc
tors, and that is a decent permanent
dwelling place for their engineer, who
lives in a portion of the packing sheds
conveniently boarded off,
Mrs,; Trealor, who has been ill for
over 12 weeks, is up and about again.
A/ largely attended meeting of
ladies interested in the fir© brigade
was .held on Monday night.
The turf wicket at South Paken
ham will be ready for use about the
end of October., the soil is from Dal
mpre, and, if successful, other clubs
will follow' South Pakenham’s lead
and wickets put -in. .
