TRADE WITH THE EAST.
VCSIT OF A NEW STEAMER.
The new twin-screw steamer Auhui.
which reached Port Adelaide on Monday
from Hongkong via ports, is one of the
latest additions to the fleet of the China
Navigation Company, and K on her maiden
voyage to the Commonwealth. Her visit s
to these waters is purely an emergency ^
one, additional vessels being necessary to
meet requirements of shippers, owitig m
to the suspension of the Japanese mail service.
She was built by Messrs. Scott and
Do.,' Co., at Greenock, and was launched in a
October last. Her chiief measurements
are:—Length, 300 ft.; breadth, 36 ft.: and
depth, 16 ft. C in.; and she is capable of
carrying 2.050 tone of cargo. The passenper
accommodation is limited- but her designers
have overlooked nothing which,

weather, while a directly opposite result

most modern appliances for handling- cat'-
go, and is fitted with a powerftdjssij^e^- j
gines, capable of developing 13 knots
hour: On the present voyage this =peed
was not nearly maintained. Tie vessel
came out under easy steam, and averaged
only 1C knots.
