STOPPED HOURS OF MISERY :

attacking, Millerpantiiig a goal; to be
followed by Anderson kicking a minor
for his side, and then Johnson kicked
a " sixer "J for the red and black. Hill
"didrlikewise 'for the green and gold,
Kennedy, adding a ' behind, and subse
quently -ffill notched another point, the
scores1 at the adjournment being —
Beechworth 6 2, Moyhu 4.9. As will
be seen by the scores Moyhu had " the
best of the deal " in this " quarter.
They "crossed the goal line on eight
'occasions to Beechworth's three.
' On resuming, Beechworth made the
pace " A cracker," evidently thinking
that a lead of only five points was a
very small margin. Their first aggres
sive movement was burned aside by
Hannan and G. Evans ; but a chain of
marks by Marchant, Miller, Thompson
and iracey resuicea in tne last-named
registering seventh goal, aud dashing
work by Turner, Walker aud Craig
helped Ottrey to notch a behind.
Johnson drove the kick-in back towards
the goal; Hannan, Wallace and G.
Evans relieving, followed by E. Evans
raising one flag for Moyhu, and a
minute later Anderson raised another.
Irresistible play by Youlden, D'Alton,
Dunn and 'Tracey transferred opera
tions, eighth goal coming from John
son. Some little time later Tracey
added a behind, and then a goal came
from Miller's boot, and immediately
afterwards the same player succeeded
in kicking another. Jusb before three-
quarter time was announced Whitty
scored a behind for Moyhu. In this
term it will be noticed that out of
Beechworth's six scoring attempts they
found the opening on four occasions ;
whilst their opponents' three shos only
produced as inaDy points, their bad
kicking for goal being on a par with
Beechworth's in the semi-final contest.
With the substantial lead of 10.4
(64 points) to 4.12 (36 points), Beech
worth's supporters were naturally very
jubilant. Great eagerness was dis
played by the respective ruck men at
the bounce, the umpire having some
difficulty in bouncing the ball. At the
fourth attempt he succeeded in doing
so. Beechworth forwarded, Thomp
son's shot strikibg the post. Moyhu
had no sooner cleared their ground
when their citadel was again found to
be in danger, Dunn drop-kicking
elevenbh goal, following by Thompson
punting a behind. Moyhu's burn then
came, a place shot by Skehan produc
ing one flag. The mosb conspicuous
man in this quarter was Marchant, his
dashes from the half-back line staving
off many a dangerous movement ; iu
fac1, the way Walker worked his back
line. proved a difficulb task to Moyhu to
secure an opening. A brief period of
wing play and oat-of-bounds work was
indulged in. Beechworbh were pena
lised on several occasions for alleged
waste of time. A dashing piece of
work by Anderson, ending with a fine
drop-kick, placed fifth goal bo Moyhu's
credit. Jusb before the chiming of the
bell pealed forth the tidings that the
gamo had terminated, Ottrey snapped
Beechworth's twelfth goal, making the
final scores—
Beechworth, 12.6 (78 pts.).
Moyhu, 5.18 (43 pts,).
Thus ended a pleasant and good
game, and the large crowd of "spectators
bordering the arena thoroughly enjoyed
ib, and their unstinted applause and
good-natured barracking went far to
wards making ib one of the moat
pleasant matches ever played for the
premiership. ' Needless to say, Beech
worth worn warmly congratulated on
their victory, and the very air was
rent with the cheering. Where all
did so well — backs, centres, forwards
aud ruck — it is a somewhat difficult
task to select players for special men
tion, bub as we have already published
the names of those composing both
teams we are of opinion thab suffices.
In our brief report of the general play
we have mentioned several players,
but it must not be thought bhat they
alone gained the day. It is owing to
pressure of space that we have omitted
the names of many whose work led up
to those mentioned being placed in a
position to ' notch the points. Our
heartiest congratulations are extended
to the team on securing the premiership
for 1912. .
