PIGEON RACING
Members of the South-Eastern
Homing Club held their twelfth race
for the 1928 “old birds” season on
Saturday, and the flight was from
Wyalong Central, N.S.W. ( first
series), an air line of 307 miles.
There were 40 birds sent to the race
point and liberated by the Victoriar
Homing Association conveyors at 8.20
a.m. into calm and clear weather. This
race was for birds carrying special
rings only, some members were
not eligible to compete owing to the
remainder of their birds not having
the specified rings. Though the
weather was favorable for flying in
New South Wales, the birds struck
much harder conditions on this side
of the border, and from there on had
to face a slight shoulder wind. This
was responsible in slowing up the time
for the race, but the birds put up a
most remarkable fly, covering the
whole journey at the speed of 1058
yards per minute, which is well over
the half mile. Such a velocity was
a complete surprise to members, as
the birds in their earlier races received
too many easy days, which were of no
benefit to them. The race, was won
by A. Marshall, of Springvale, making
his fourth win for the season, H. Bil
ling (S’vale) again faking third posi
tion. The result was;
A. Marshall OS’vale), b.b.c., flying
time, Bh. 32m' 145., 1.
R. Yin Goon (Bentleigh), b.b.h.,
flying time, Bh.~ 41m. .95., 2.
.H. • Billing. XS’yale), b.c.c., - flying
time, Bh. 52m., S.
