1 .Municipal Auditors. — The question
of retaining local anditprs for the purpose
of checking -municipal! accounts, iri ad
dition to the officers specially appointod
by the Government, is one which will
probably como before Parliament at an
early date. Mr Webb, in whoso depart
ment the matter rests, points out that the
absurdity of this practice ! has been dis
cussed in Parliament over and over again,
but ' any effort in tho direction of reform
has always been bloeked by the influence
brought to bear on individual members of
the Legislative Assembly. The expendi
ture ou local auditors under the present
system Is, in his opinion, unjustifiablo,-
and he sees no advantage in its being con
tinued.
Hospital Committee amenities.-r-The
dismissal of one of the nurses of the
Wangaratta Hospital at a recent Bpecial
meeting of the Committee will, we under
stand, be the subject of further discus
sion at the ordinary meeting to-night
(Thursday), with a. view to determine how
J far the act was necessary and just.
