Tuesday.
The places of the men who struck
at the Riverstone meat works have
been filled, and work is proceeding
smoothly.
Substitutes have heen found for the
'bus drivers in Mr Stewart's employ
who went out on account of a reduction
of wages.
Since the passing of the Current
Accounts Act, by which depositors in
suspended banks are' enabled to obtain
advances in Treasury notes to the ex
tent of 50 per cent, of their locked-up
accounts, advantage has been taken of
the measure to the amount in all of
about £110,000. This sum represents
a large number' of depositors. Owing
probably to the fact that merchants
had to meet their bills on the 4th,
withdrawals this week have been much
heavier than during the first few days
that the act came into operation. On
Monday they totalled £25,000, and
to-day £22,000. i
