: A' fire.rcausing the death, of an: 8;months' old
infaiib.T, broke out -in: Mr Barber's residence at
Axe Creekain Monday morning.; It started in
the- servHnt'8 bedro-nn, and when first noticed
had a cood hold of the building. ' Mrs Chnrlton,
aged -70 years, mother of Mrs Birin-r. heard
the ciackling, and went inside and found the
bedroom in flames. She tried to rescue the
child, but found it impossible, getting severely
burnt in the attempt. The house, a
seven roomed one,:. with its contents was com
pletely, destroyed. When tho fire had burnt out
the charred remains of the- infant were found;
The house was uninsured.
