ENTERTAINMENT AT HAR-
RIETYILLE.
In connection with the Wesleyan
Church a. concert was held at the
Athenreum Hall, Harrietville, on
Saturday evening last, the programme
being sustained by! the choir of the
Wandihgong Utiurch, with Mesdames
Wilkinson and Moore and Miss M.
Sharp, of the Bright choir, Mr. Staf-
ford, of Omeo, and Mr. Tavare also
assisting. There was a fair attendance,
and the Rev. Mr. Tait presided.
A number of members of the choiiy
as also the Wandiligong Glee Club,
contributed veryacceptably several part
songs, including " Hail, Smiling iMorn,"
"Sleighing Song," "See Our Oars,"
" The bells of St Michael's Tower,"
" Away we go" and " Laugh and
grow fat," and a tistette party the
glee-; .'/ Hark, the- Curfew's solemn

_ acceptably::-;A " 'with in" "a
dream," and Mr. Tavare's fine voice
was heard to advantage in the partial
song " Let me like a soldier fall." A
trio, f When shall we three meet
again ?" was given with an harmonious
blending of their voices by Mrs. Wil
kinson, Miss M. Sharp, and Mr. Oioss.
Mr. Stafford, (Omeo), and Mr. J.
Crofts, (Waudiligoug), each gave two
well delivered recitations, tlie former
selecting as his pieces "Betsy and T
are out." and " How Betsy and I made
it up," while Mr. Crofts' contributions
were " The Execution of Montrose"
and " Marmion." Master Wacty Davies
was warmly applauded for his singing
of " Alone on the Raft." Air T.
Jones had two on the list, both comic
item numbers, "A Rare Old Spree"
and "The Grass Widower," both of
which convulsed the audience with
laughter, and in each instance were
encores demanded. Air. Gross gave a
meritorious rendering of " The Village
Blacksmith," the song being effectively
illustrated with a dozen lantern views
shown by Air. Tait. " The Deatli of
Nelson" also given with spirit
by Air. Tavare, was similarly illus-
trated by a splendied set of lantern
views. The concluding item on the
excellent programme was a very
amusing Shadow Pantomime, " The
Dumb Dentist," the part of stump
extractor being ably sustained by Air.
Stafford. Aliss Alaggie Jones presided
at the piano to the satisfaction of bolli
performers and audience. Everything
passed off pleasantly, and the audience
appeared by its marked expressions of
approval to thoroughly appreciate the
entertaiument.
