SERIOUS CHARGES.
SENSATION AT EURO A.
The recent arrest by the Euroa police
of a woman named Mary Bellera on a
serlona charge in connection with the
death of a child given birth to by an un
married girl named Lorrle Louisa Mltohell
has been followed by sensational develop
ments. Frederick Kerslake, a married
man, a 1a Dourer, was arresceu as an ac
cessory in the disposal of the body, the
alleged remains of which were found
bnrledinhi3 garden, Kerslake pointing
oub the spot. This week he directed at
tention to an old well in a paddock near
the Sheppart m-roid, about half a mile
from the town. After two days' labour
this was pnmped out, and a nnmber of
bones were recovered. Some of them are
manifestly those of a rabbit or hare, but
others are suspected to be of a different
character. They are presumed to have
been in the well for two years.
On Thursday a sensation was caused by
the arrest of an old residentnamvd Thomas
Batten, about 60 years old, an orchardlat,
on a oharge in respect of which his step
daughter, a young woman about 26 years,
will be the principal witness. A state
ment she made to tbe police incriminated
her step-father, besides others, aud the
arrest ensued.
