YACKANDANDAH CRICKET CLUB.
The. annual meeting of the lackanclan-
dah Cricket Club was held at the Water
loo Hotel on Thursday week, Mr. O'Grady
in the chair. -
balance-sheet.
The secretary (Mr. M. R. Walsh) pro
duced the balance-sheet and rep'ort for
past year, which .showed a credit balance
of 2s. 4d. The balance-sheet for the
previous year was also presented, and
showed a debit balance of £9 los.
report.
"T have much pleasure in presenting
the balance-sheet for past year, which
shows a credit balance of 2s. 4d. I en
deavored as much as possible to curtail
expenses; nevertheless our expenses were
somewhat heavy, being increased toacon-
siderableextent by the association matches.
Our receipts for the past year amounted
to £10 lis. 6d., and expenditure to £10
9s. 2d. At the commencement of the
season it was found necessary to purchase
some new material. In regard to the
performances of the club for the past
season, the position gained on the
premiership list is, I regret to say, far
from being a creditable one. Better
results should have been obtained, more
especially so having regard to the
brilliant performances of the club the
previous season, they during that period
winning the M'Glenchy trophy. The
want of enthusiasm on the part of some
of the players was most manifest ; their
reluctance to travel for the purpose of
playing matches lessening the possibili
ties of our success. I trust the ensuing
season may be productive of good results,
and wishing the club every success."
Mr. GaLLOVYaY moved the adoption
of the report and balance-sheet, which
was seconded by Mr. DOLPHIN, senr.,
and carried.
officers.
Patrons. — Hon. John A. Wallace,
M.L.O., Mr. Craven, M.L. A., Councillors
Beatty, Bowran and Priestley, and Dr.
Acton.
Vice-Presidents. — Mr. J. J. M'Laugh-
lin and Mr. W. Moore.
Secretary and Treasurer. — Mr. GAL
LOWAY proposed that Mr. Walsh be re
elected secretary and treasurer. He con
sidered that whatever success was
achieved by the club during the past year
was clue mainly to the efforts of their
secretary. He therefore had much plea
sure in moving that he be re-elected.
Seconded by Mr. O'GLLADY and
carried.
Mr. WALSH thanked those gentle
men present for the honor they had con
ferred upon him in re-electing him to the
position. He also desired to thank Mr.
Galloway for his kind remarks. In
carrying out the obligations imposed upon
him he felt that he was but doing his
duty, and to think that he had done so to
the satisfaction of those concerned was,
he could assure them, very gratifying in
deed. Whatever success the club had
achieved during the past season was due
in an equal degree to the efforts of Mr.
Martin and Mr. Galloway. The past
season had been auything but a betl of
roses for their captain, Mr. Galloway.
He had to fight under difficulties, often
having to enter the field with three or
four of the team, the balance having to
be made up of outsiders. Had tho team
pulled well together he ventured to say
that their captain would have led them on
to victory. He should like much to be
relieved from the position of secretary
and treasurer.
After some discussion, Mr. Walsh
agreed to accept the position pro tern.
Match Committee. — Messrs. M'Laugh-
liu, Martin, and O'Grady.
Mr. WaLSH moved a vote of- thanks
to the chairman, which was carried.
The meeting then adjourned.
Transfer of Mr. H. Laverv. —There
are many in this district who, having an
intimate acquaintance with Mr. Hugh
Lavery, Government surveyor, will be
interested to learn that he is retiring
from camp life. Mr. Lavery is well
known as an old and esteemed member of
the Masonic fraternity, in which he has
attained the highest honors, and his
virtual promotion will be regarded with
pleasure by his numerous friends and
brethren- of the craft. His services are
to be utilised by the Lands Department
in the direction of the classification of
lands, for which special duty his lengthy
experience as a surveyor should Veil
qualify him. Mr. Lavery, who has been
engaged in the Benalla district for some
years past, has been informed that his
party (several of whom are well-known in
these parts) will be disbanded about the
end of the present month. Mr. Lavery
will probably consider that he has no just
cause to grumble at the change. A
period of 35 years' active service as a sur
veyor in the field — over 25 years of which
have been spent in the service of the
Government— ought to be a fully satisfy
ing spell of that kind of hard labor, even
to such an indefatigable " grafter" as our
amiable friend. We wish Mr. Lavery
long life in his new sphere of public use
fulness.
