MINING NEWS.
BROKEN HILL.— Very encouraging results
are being obtained from the Junction. Develop
mental work on the upraise in Browne's section
from tlio end of the southern drive in the 050 feet
level, when it had reached 73 feet, was suspended
and a crowcut was put in 9 feet. When it entered
the bottom of the winze, sunk 80 feet from the
400 feet level, this crosscut carried on ore. bodv
with neither wall in sight, assays giving in bulk
1G4 oz, silver, 17 per cent.' lead and 7-i per cetu.
zinc. Tlio connection gives 150 feet of backs in
new ground ready for operating on when wanted.
The same body iu the crosscut at the 550 feet level
oonluined 20 feet wide of ludo, 17 feet being
good paying grade.
CASTLEMAlXE.-r-Xorth Quartz Ilill last

crosscut. . Heavy water came in, mid it wilt be a
day or two before they can determine size and
quality ot the reef.
MALDON.— The North of England Co. cleaned
up 49 tons at the Union Mills on Tuesday for 12
oz. 114 dwt. Hmcllcd gold, with sand yet to treat.
The return, although slightly below expectations,
is about equal to the last crushing, and is pay
able, as the stone is easily broken.
