Dr. Yonl held an inquest yesterday upon the
. body of William Lewis, aged sixty-four, who
died in the hospital on the previous day from
the effects of an immersion in the-Rivcr Yarrit.
-The deceased had been drinking to excess for
about r. week, but had not been incapacitated
from work. According to the evidence of his
son liis father was a plasterer, and left liis house
at North L'arlton oii-. Tuesday morning to
go to his ' work at iiaudridge. Shortly
l»efore noon he was seen on the banks of the
Yarra by a witness named John George
Westell, who stated that he saw him throw a
stick into the water, and he then slipped and
fell into the stream. This occurred near
I'rince's-bridge, and Mr. Greenland, seeing the
man in the water, put off in a boat to his
rescue. He brought him to the bank, where
deceased was treated by Dr. Snow-
gall, and he revived considerably. He was
then taken to the hospital, where he died a
few hours afterwards. The medical evidence
showed that death had been caused by con-
gestion of the lungs and brain consequent upon
immersion in the water. The jury returned a
verdict that deceased died from the effects of
an immersion in the water of the Kiver Yarra
into which he accidentally felL
