VICTORIAN CRICKETERS'
ASSOCIATION.
THE "CASH" LEAGUE DISCUSSED. .
A meeting of the Victorian Cricketers' Asso
ciation was held at tho Vienna Cof6 yestorday
afternoon ; the president, Mr R. "W. Best,
M.L.A-, occupying the chair.
The neoretary, Mr, Heather, read ft commu-
nication, dated 9th September, from the eight
cltibft whioh form the new Cricket League, for
mally withdrawing from the association, and
enclosing ft copy of the rules of the new
league
Mr D. Scott pointed out, thnt according to
the rules of the association, no club could with
draw without giving one month's notice.
Mr. Hades said it wa recognised the eight
clubs referred to were noceding, and they simply
had to consider the question of forming a junior
ftsftociation.
Tlio Chairman said that from one aspect it
might be regarded as a melancholy meeting, as it
meant almost the decease of the association. It
was no good trying to shut their eyes, the con
stitution of the association said that it should
have the entire control and management of in
tercolonial and international matches and settle
all disputes regarding cricket. That was essen
tially the roasou for the association, and when it
was taken away it left it powerless and iuert.
These cluhs were pr&otically tho arbiters of the
situation, and it wah for the remainder to deter-
mina among thomsoNuM what was to
be done. They would have to submit grace
fully to wlintevor tho eight might do. Soma
club were not satisfied with tho A and B
classification, but what oould the new league
accomplish whioh the association could not?
It w&b the association's duty to bo very cautious
that crioket did not suffer by any aotion on
their psrt.
Mr. D. Scott moved—
That the association accept tho resignation of tho
clubs sent in.
ftlr. Eades seconded the motion.
Mr. Kcilcher oould not see tho objeot of
forming an inner circle. If tho big olubs were '
to search within their own localitios they would
bo far less prominent than at present. Very
few men playing with tbo leading olubs startod
with them, and nearly every prominent player
in theso had been rcoruited from the less influ
ential club. The new loaguo was simply
grasping ntthe almighty dollar. The governing of
cricket would he placed in the hands of Mel
bourne, South and East clubs,
Tlio ChairAian thought it advisable to wost-
pone tbo present meeting until the olubs odtsfde
the leaguo hnd had an opportunity of dieoaeeing
tho advisability or otherwise of affiliating with
it.
Air M'Guignn agreed. Tho ontsido olubs
know nothing of what was proposed until thoy
entered tho room. The league had net had tho
courtony to forwnrd copies of its rule.
Mr. Scott having withdrawn his motion, tho
meeting was adjourned until Friday noxt, at
5.30 p. m.
trio "outside" om7b3.— jieetrno of the
DKLEOATEfl.
A private meeting of tlio delegatos from the
clubs outside the contitution of tbo new league
was held after tho aanociation meeting, Dr.
Ray (Univertiity) presiding, and Messrs 'l\»)hey
(University), M'Qiiigan (Hawthorn), Callnghan
(Eftseud'»n), Thompson and Hannah (Williams-
town), Koliehcr (Port Melbourne), D. Scott
(Bendigo), Stokes (Brighton), Chambers
(Hawksburn), Dunatan (Uoburg) being pre
sent.

were read and considered.
It was moved by Mr Kelleber and seconded
by Mr. Scott—
That a suh-committoe, consisting of Dr. Ray and
Mesra. Callnghan, M'Gsigan anriThompHonwA.it
upon the Jungtie to ascertain if it would make the
following ((Mict'sftionn in case the eight clubs left in
tho V.C.A. affiliate with such league 1. That tho
umpire he provided and paid hy the league. 2.
That additional provvdnn he mado to Increosn the
chance of promotion of clubs qualifying in accord
ance with now league rule. 3. That tbo secretary
and present delegates have presont privilege. 4.
That tho now leuuue provide it pennant and badges
for competition between the affiliated clubs. 5.
