OLD AGE PENSIONS. 1
STILL ON THE INCREASE.
LARGE NUMBER OF INVALID
CLAIMANTS.
The number of old age pensioners in the
Commonwealth is still steadily increasing.
During the past month 551 additional
names were added to the list, making a
total oi 84,925 pensions now in force. Since
the system was first introduced 113,980 ap
plications for the pension have been
granted, bat 25,227 deaths and 3S2S cancel
lations have left the number as stated.

The official return also reveals the re
markable increase of 3287 in the number
of invalid pensions, making a grand total
of li,114. Over 3000 of the additional reci
pients are residents of South Australia. In
all OOfS'-o claims have been granted, but
hero also deaths and ' cancellations have
been fairly numerous. The following are
