THE RAILWAYS.
SUBURBAN TRAIN SERVICE.
Reference was made by a correspondent
writing in yesterday's issue to the rear
rangement of the Canlfield time table de-
' cided on by the Railway Commissioners,
and the necessity for providing for the
break between the 6.30 and 6.55 p.m. trains.
Railway officials point out that a Caulfield
train is at present run "from Flimlers-etreot
at 6.35, and they maintain that a larger
service is not necessary between 6.35 and
7 p.m. The rush from! city to suburbs lias
ordinarily 'ceased by. 6.35, and additional
trains are not necessary. Another com
plaint affecting the Box Hill service has
come under attention of the department.
It k urged that the trains during . the
busy hours of the afternoon are disgrace
fully overcrowded. But the department is
not prepared to promise any immediate
improvement. Objection is made to the
I running of the HealeSville train over tlie
line at 5.12 p.m., when the suburban traffic
is busiest. The department attributes the
complaint to the fact that suburban pas
sengers are not allowed to travel by this
train. That is following the practice of the
department in not permitting suburban
traffic on the country services.
