In the House of Representatives yester
day Mr. Finlayson asked the Prime Minis
ter/iff' negotiations were still proceeding
for the resumption of . a trading or mail
service bctAveen Australia and Canada?
. The Prime > Minister said negotiations
Avere proceeding for a mail service between'
Australia and Canada, and the United
States as well. Brisbane and Melbourne,
as ports of call, would be subjects for sub
sequent consideration.
Mr. Bruce Smith: Did not the Prime
Minister say at the Conference in London
that the Government could not contribute
to tlie Vancouver service because pro
ducers in this country. objected to it on the
ground that New Zealand producers Avere
sending home the same clnss of goods?
The Prime Minister; I said no such
thing.
, Mr. Bruce Smith: I will bring you 'the

The Prime Minister: What I may have
said Avas that to continue the existing ar
rangement Avould simply be subsidising New
Zealand goods against our own products.
