The Summer meeting of tbe Geelong Raoing

Lapidist, The Indian and Impostor all suffering
defeat, tbe western representative, Sbandon,
ridden by Carey, upsetting their ealouiations,
and winning comfortably, followed home by
Preciploe and Abbey.
Mr. S. Miller's filly Ruth was held most in
esteom for the Trial Stakes, but though she ran
prominently all through, and made a game

the second favorite Tellus, the pair being fol
lowed home by Votrcss.
The Sires' Produoe Stakes was contested by
five starters, and resulted in a victory for
Eiridsforde, with Preston second aud Rink
third. .
The local candidate, Tbe Clown, and Cressy
started almost equal favorites with Comedian
for the Geelong Cup, and the first named,
steered by Moore, asserted his superiority in

somewhat easily ; Comedian, who was ridden by I
Rammage, getting no nearer than sixth in a
field of seven, Meltonian whipping in. Tbe
winner is by Off Color, from a King of the

that Tellus, who won the Trial Stakes . yester
day, was also successful at Terang on the first
day of the year in the Maiden Plate.

will take place on the Ascot course, and in the
total absence of opposition there is every proba
bility of an unusually large attendance, a
Saturday without a registered meeting within 40
miles of Melbourne being a great rarity. Tho
