DASTARDLY ATTACK ON A
WOMAN.
A young man named John Kelson was
prosecuted nt the liitzroy court yesterday
on li charge of assault with Intent lo com
mit a on ill ill offence upon n woman nnmcd
Carrie Foulgcr. Prosecutrix Informed the
bench that she missed the last tram on the
night of 13th, und when walking homewards
iu Napler-stroet, near Masou-streot, she
heard footstopB behind her, approaching
rnpldly. Tlmn a handkerchief was placed
over her mouth, und she was dragged Into
a right of way. There were two men behind
her all the time. One, whom she alleged
to be accused, made an attempt to commit
tho offouco. Slio bit Ills fluger. Ho threw
her down, aud sold, "I will have revenge
on you," nnd hit. her, adding, "Take that,
yon cow/' Two of her teeth were
broken. Her right eye was blackened aud
she wns uiueh bruised about the body.
Thomas M'Parlnnd, a resident of Little
George-street, stated that lie heard the cries
of a woman, "Will someone help me?" nnd
with Ills wife .went lu the direction of the
Screams. Two men rnu awuy. He could
not Identify accused.
Elizabeth M'Farlund, wife of Inst wit
ness, gave similar evidence. She called out
to the man who held tho woman dowu, "Let
her go, you cowardly dog." She was positive
accused was not tlint man.
