Preston were without the services of
Warr, last season's captain and coach,
through injuries received in a practice game.
Bert Hyde, from Hawthorn, the new
captain and coach, and Beagley, from
Camberwell, made their first appearance.
Northcote had two new men—Rumney,
from Collingwood, who had been appointed
captain and coach; and Thorne.
from Essendon seconds.
The ground was in excellent condition
and good systematic play marked the
opening quarter. Northcote were first
into their stride, and Seymour quickly
scored a goal.
The sides were evenly matched, with
Northcote slightly the surer. It was goal
for goal, and Northcote held the lead
until a strong Preston rally just before
the bell added two goals and put Northcote
two points down.
