WORKERS' CONFERENCE.
Addressing tho members of the council of
,tho Anti-Sweating League yesterday, tho
secretary; Mr. S. Maugor, stated that tlie
Idea of suspending the Factories and Shops
Act, even, temporarily, was absolutely; un-
tuiiiKuiue. The only thing to be done to as
sure fairness all round throughout the Com
monwealth would he to secure uniform in
dustrial legislation iu all tho States: He
hoped the conference of workers' representa
tives, which was being arranged for, would
lend to some ndvnuco In the direction of a
solution of the problem created by the opera
tion of the act In Victoria and the non-exist
ence of similar enactments lu other States.
He believed the time would conic when tho
council might take steps to arrange for a
meeting of employers, a large number of
whom, lie was sure, would bo willing to co
operate In the direction Indicated. The
Labor members of Parliament had promised
their assistance.
The council appointed the president, vlcn-
presideut aud secretary to meet similar olli-
