BULLY HAYES WINS IN
PROTEST AGAIN
Leads Nearly All
Way In Steeple
Twice in succession Bully Hayes has won steeplechases after being
involved in a protest.
Bully Hayes won on protest from Brightello at Moonee Valley a
fortnight ago, and in the Autumn Steeple at Williamstown
today had to survive a protest from the rider of Beau Placid,
who finished second.
T

turn. Bully - Hayes, who led most

of the way, swung wide, making

took Beau Placid with him.
Bully Hayes defeated Beau Placid
by three lengths, and the stewards
did not take long to dismiss the promt.
The steeplechasers were a very ordinuy
lot today. Bully Hayes had no difficulty
in leading from start to finish.
A fine stamp of jumper, Bully Hayes
will probably win in better company,
but it is doubtful whether he will slay
the three miles of the Grand National.
Backers of Bully Hayes Had to take
9 4. but they had no doubt about the
result until the home turn was reached,
where the winner ran Beau Placid
off the course.

Steeple ran up to National standard.

King's Warden, who ran third, won
at Easter at Williamstown, and finished 1
on stronglv today, but that is all that
could be said in his favor. He is not
the best of jumpers.
AI1 Blarney, who went with Bully
Haves as far as the half-mile, dropped
out then and was a poor fourth.
The Bendigo winner, Testudo, was
never a possibility, nor were Trentwood,
Monlargis and Samo.
Wakerife very nearly fell at the firs
fence. Hie rider. N. .Bracken, was lucky
to retain his seat.
