ARRIVAL OF A GERMAN CRUISER.
An" arrival at the port ot Hobart
yesterday was the S.M.S. Cormoran,
a German cruiser of 1600 tons, on surrey
wofk, from
Sydney.
She
anchored
in the roadstead early yeste^via^,
morning, and residents ot Hobart
were miade -aware of the presence
-of a war vessel by the sound
of the firing of guns. . A salute-of 21
^uns was fired by
the
Cormoran,
which was replied to by the Mount
Nelson battery.
The visitor is a fine
looking ship.
She is maimed by 150
men and about 20 officers.
Sbe is
under the command of Captain Kbert,
and with Jiim
are
tihe
following
officers:—First
officer, Captain-Lieutenant
Feldt: navigating officer, Lieutenant
Von A'bentroth;
and
Lieutenants
DIsCiller, Von Wickede, Wltschetzky,
Wendo, Kirchberger, and Dr.
Korkricht, surgeon. ^ The Cormoran
is on a cruise round the world, and
has beeu away from Germany
for
over two years.
Her commander anticipates
remaining at Hobart
until
November 2, and in
the
meantime
trips will he made to various; places
of Interest around Hobart.

by the German Consul

called
upon
the
Governor,
the Premier, the
Mayor,
the
Masfter
Warden,
and
the
Stats Commandant,
In tbe afternoon
tbe Mayor and members of the Cabinet
•etumed the visit To-dar, being the
Empress of Germany's birthday, the
Cormoran will be decked with flags,
and a Myal salute of 21 guns will be
fired.
