A ROYAL COMIC SINGER.
The Princesses Pignatelli and Dolgorouki, who
have taken up the profession of musicians at publio
entertainments, have been imitated by a male rival
of princely dignity. The Russian Prince, Sergius
Obelinski, has just made his first appearance as a
comic singer, at a ca/<i c7tan.tant, in Moscow. The
high-born artist presumed so much upon his birth,
or his genius, as to insult the audience to their
faces for not doing proper justice to his perform-
ances. He seems to have been a conspicuous
failure. There was a scandalous scene in the hall,
and the police had to intervene. The prince
showed as small respect for them as for his audi-
ence, and had to be carried before a Justice of the
Peace, who condemned his musical highness to a
month's imprisonment. Whatever other faults may
be attributed to the Russian administration of
justice, it cannot be accused of undue respect of
persons. Princes are more plentiful in the East
than in the West of Europe, it is true, but we can
hardly imagine ono of our justices venturing to
send a Prince straight to gaol.
