The Jubilee Demonstration at
I West Maitland.
On Friday evening adjourned meeting of the committee seised
with the general arrangements for the jmblio dimiimn rallón on
Jubilee Day at West Maitland was held at the Council Cham-
ber. Mr R. A. Young was visited to the chair, the Mayor being
detained elsewhere. There were also present-Messrs J. W.
Pender, C. Taylor, W. Cracknell, R. Ross, P. Schubert, J.
Barlow, R. Grimwade J. D. Prentice, C. Webster, J. J.Riley,
J. Bourke, F Bushell, O. K. Young, A. S. Browne, J A.
Pulbrook, E. Tipper, E. Blair, and E. Norman. Minutes of the
previous meeting tv>-re nail und confirmed.
The correspondence included lettera from the various
friendly societies that the purposed taking part In the demon
stration ; from Mr. J. B. Holmes, forwarding a cheque for
£5, from Messrs Wood Brothers with a cheque for £3 Js.
The Treasurer Intimated that the lund had reached £137
ISs. The Australian Mutual Provident Society had kindly
contributed I he sum ol £5 <h Mr. Tipper promisid to pi ¡ni
I inscription in the prize books to be given to children taking
part in the sports. Mr. Riley moved, and Mr. Pender
seconded that a telegram be sent to the Mayor
of Sydney, enquiring where medals suitable for p-esentatlon to
children in honour of the Jubilee oould be procured, and the
cost of same. Tile motion was approved. It was further re-
solved, on the motion of Mr. Taylor, seconded by Mr. Grim
jvade, that in the event of a satislactory answer being received
to such telegram, Messrs J. D Prentice and Rourke bo em-
powered to incur an expenditure of £10 in the purchase df
medals. Mr Prentice submitted a letter from Messrs.
Myers and Solomon, agents for Mr Pain, intimating that the fire
works had been shipped, and would reach Maitland on Satur-
day. The fireworks will be stored in Unity Hall, Bourke
street. Mr. Pender reported that a nice archway had been
designed lor the Devonshire street entranoe way to the Park
The funds did not warrant the erection of other arches. Mr.
Prentice Informed Ibu meeting that the clock and chiming
bells in St. Mary's tower would be set In motion on Tues-
day in commemoration of the oocasion. Mr. Rourke sub-
mitted a satisfactory report from the committee com-
missioned with the sports programme arranged for the
children. A report was read Irom tlio Procession Sub-
committee, announcing the order in which the lrlendly
societies are to march. With the view to preserve regularity
and to prevent accident, it was unanimously resolved that the
Mayor be asked to próvido for the suspension ol all trafilo In
the streets along winch the procession would pass during the
tiraeoccupiedln the march-aboumne hour Such a course it was
contended would conduce greatly to the salety ol children, wltoie
protection should be the first ore of the committee The
Superintendent of Police is to be asked to station a body of
fiollce in the street while the proc «sion passed. The meeting
miller determined that eaoh member of the committee he
asked to attend ut Ilannun-street at u quarter to ten o'clock,
mid to accompany the children and friendly societies along the
line of marou, and that the officers and committeemen wear a
distinutive badge It wasstated that a desire hud been expressed
on the previous eveuing that a gentleman on horseback should
bo appointed lo assist the marshal, Mr James Pritchard. Mr.
O K. Young was unanimously chosen for the duty. The Com-
mittee were informed that the Regimental Baud would con
tiilue in the procession to the Park. The meeting was
adjourned till Monday evening nt eight o'clook.
