THE ASSASSIN IN COURT.
LONDON, 17tli December.
At Bow-street police court to-day Prince,
otherwise known as " Mad Archer," was
brought up on a oliarge of murder.
The prisoner smiled in an imbecile
fashion in the court wliilo the case against
liim was being heard. The spectators,' and
especially tlie crowd which gathered out-
'.si'de tlie court, wore greatly excited, and
thb' appearance of tlie murderer was.
greeted with howls of execration.
It has transpired that though Arolier's
motive for committing the cowardly assas
sination was tho refusal of Mr. Terriss to
recommend tlie Actors' Benevolent Society'
authorities to grant further pecuniary
assistance to Archer, who had not for somo
years been connected with tiie Adelphi
Theatre, yet as a matter of fact Mr.
Terriss had actually recommended that,
such assistance ho given to tlie man who
last, night murdered him.
