WOMEN'S MODEL PARLIAMENT.
A meeting of the Women's Model
Parliament was held ln Cook's room*
yesterday. Mrs. SItles Walker was
elected Speaker of the HOUBO. Tha
Governor's speech was read by Mts»
C. Gatehouse. This contained reference
among others things to legislation
affecting the protection of infant
life and the improvement of sanitation,
and other matters concerning
adult life, larger subsidies to be given
to the hospital and University, conditions
as between masters and servants,
the establishment of a Foundling
Hospital, the setting apart of two
beaches—one for males and the other
for females—for swimming, and tbe
free teaching of the art by experts,
and afforestation of the State. The
Address in Reply was moved by Mrs.
Plesse (member for Queenborough)
and seconded by Sirs. Harconrt (member
for North RoOart). The Premier
(Miss M. H. Blsdee) made certain reports
to the House, and secured the
adjournment of the debate to Tuesday,
August If at 3 p.m.
