HEW AVENUES FOR THE BLIND.
DuriuR the past few years many
new avenues have been opened up to
blind women, due no doubt hi a great
measure to Helen Kcllrr's genius,
which has demonstrated the fact that
it is possible for blind people to succeed

One of the latent ideas which have
found favor in New York is that of
employing blind telephone girls.
Slightly different switches arc set up
for them, which by their marvellous
stjnse of loueb they manipulate so well
that those firms who employ them sny
they are far more satisfactory than
the average pirl with two eyes.
Typewriting has also been largely
taken up by blind irirls. Special
machines are made for them, on which
they attain a wonderful speed, and
they are said to make few mistakes
and to possess much better memories
than people who can see. As masseuses
quite a number of blind worneh

America, and are a great success;

gives illustrations of some beautiful
pieces of work woven by blind girls.
