3,202 tons
Monitor G M Co -Manager reports, May 10 -
" Shaft down 83 feet o inches, being an increase of
nearly 2 feet since last measurement The rock still
continues of the same character, but I am m hopes
of passing through this bar shortly, and expect slate,
in which case the sinking will be much easier I
may add that Hickson, Creighton, Beard have struck
a rich vein much further east than any of the pre
vous workings on that line, which fact tends to prove
my theory m favour of the mam strike of gold being
towards the centre of the hill Some doubts have
existed of late as to the actual acreage of this
company's ground It was placed before
the public as a four-acre lease, but licensed
surveyor Sharp furnished his report as a
three-acre lease, which led to a portion being jumped,
and an attempt made to float same .nto a company
The lease has been re-surveyed by Government aur
vejor Anderson, whose report makes the companys
property nearly five acres and shareholders will see
by following letter that the matter is now finally
settled -. Western Gold fields Office, Bathurst-Sir,
-Referring to your communication of July last, Í
have to acquaint you that the amended plan as sur-
veyed by Mr Anderson will be adopted in lieu of the
original survey by Mr Sharp I have the honour to
be, Sir, yours, Whittingdale Johnson, Commissioner
m charge To G Vere,' '
Great Australian G M Co -Mining manager le
ports, May 14 -" The Garibaldi reef wbs struck in
the drive at l8 feet, being at a level of 138 feet, and
the stone looks very well, showing very good gold,
mostly m the slate casing I cannot give you all
particulars as to the size, <Lc, until the reef is bored,
but the stone will give the shareholders some en-
couragement. I should recommend the company to
raise stone starting from the 82-feet level, and block
out to the present depth Instructions have been
forwarded to stope out stone as soon as works will
permit This shaft is being worked by a horse
whim, and the watei is easily kept down The Big
Bear shaft is at present idle, wanting winding gear
The proceeds of trial crushing from tha 82-feet level
are on view at office."

I intend putting a considerable quantity of the poorer
stone through first, and when I have thoroughly
proved the machine, I will go on with some of the
best stone There are over 600 tons of quartz
ready for the battery, and with what we are raising
weekly, we shall be able to keep the machine con-
stantly going for some time to come The prospects
of the mine continue very encouraging, parrcularlj
in No 1 shaft, where there is a face of stoue nearly
twelve feet wide.'
Happs G M Co-The mining manager reportB,

Lion of Wattle I lat G M Co -Mining manager
reports -" I hive got a change in the rock, it is
something like the workings at the top of the hill
I expect to cut a vein ev ery dny now The rock
lies noith and south, the way the veins run I like
the appearancs of it very much When we strike
the reef I believe wo will have a good payable one
for j ears Wo shall have no stoppage if we strike
wntei because tho drive will talco it all out I am
letting it rise about one foot m one hundred The
quartz will be raised at a small cost, and if it only
j îelds half an ounce to the ton will pay well I hope
to report good newB next time "
