COPPEB MINING.
(From the Mount Perry Maa, Mau 80
MOUNT PERRY COPPER MINE.
The lode in the bottom level looks fine and wide,
and the shoots of ore are extending to a greater
length. As a proof that the mine is rapidly improv-
ing, and that the ore is accumulating m large heaps
alf over the mine, we notice that there are three
new furnaces in coarse of erection, one of which is
now nearly completed, and will be at work in a few
days.
NORMANBY.
Good bottoms are now in the furnaces, and every-
thing working most satisfactorily. The Chilian mill
is now on the- ground, and is kept continually going
crushing the rough ore from the clamps.
During the past fortnight about twenty tons of
regulus of a good percentage has been forwarded to
port, but it is thought that the next loading down-
ward will be pure copper. There is a large quan-
tity of regulus on the ground, and the Refinery is
near completion,-they expect to have file in it on
Saturday.
From the various stopes in the mine some fine
piles of ore are being bioken. Sinking has been re-
sumed m Palmer's Shaft, so as to test the mine at a
great depth.
WOLCA.
Bennett's shaft is being put down with all speed.
The stopes are jielding good ore. A good parcel
has already been delivered to the Mount Perry
Copper Works. All surface work going on satisfac-
torily.
Within the last few weeks a discovery of great
importance has been made m the neighbourhood
namely, the finding of a fine seam of fireclay. This
clay has been tested at the Normanby Smelting
Works, and stood the test well, fire apparently had
no effect on it whatever Mr. Hussey, the manager
of the above works, pronounces the bricks to be
equal to Dinas, the best Welsh firebricks. This dis-
covery will enable us to erect our furnaces much
cheaper than we can now-not only that, but our
works need not be again brought to a standstill
waiting for the arrival of firebricks. We bear the
discoverer has taken up the land, and is now pre-
pared to enter into contracts for supplying the dif-
ferent smelting companies, and he guarantees the
brick to be as good as the English, or, if found to the
contrary, will not charge for such as he may have
delivered.
Mr Geo Harden, in his Brisbane share report, of
2nd May, says--"In Copper, PerryB are still held
firm, and the Sydney market has now come np to
our prices, viz, 20s , Normanbys are Bteadily im-
proving , the whole of this Co.'s new issue of scrip
having been placed at 7s 6d, and the Chairman's re-
port on the mine being so satisfactory, an advance
may be looked for The Mt. Clara Co require
.£8000, and offer terms to the capitalists. Edmas are
continually enquired for, but holders are firm.
Ellendales are also improving "

Since my last nothing bas turned up worth wtiting
upon except in mining matters. Mr. D. Capel has
opened another shaft on his copper land, with better
effect than evei. The lode in this shaft is now two
feet wide at nine feet deep, and very good. Several
pieces of ore shown are really splendid, the best I
have seen jet. Keith and party are also working
near the same place with good prospects. None of
the Upper Bingera miners are doug anything-not
even working any of their mines.
