COUNTRY SHOWS.
ALLENDALE.— The annual show under the
auspices of tho Smeaton Agricultural Society, held
on Thursday and Friday, passed off very success
fully. The gate takings amounted to £07, as com
'pared 'with £111 last year. The number of ex
hibits was slightly less than last year, and the
quality, showed signs of the dry-season. Sir Alex
ander Peacock. M.L.A. ; Mr.' Salmon, M.P.; Messrs.
Morey and Ham, M's.LC., and W. B. Grose,
were smcng the visitor?. At th» invita
tion of tlie president, Sir Alexander Peacock de
clared tlie newly erected grand stand, which cost .
