anxiously looked forward to by the inhabitants
of our small town.

the court-house, to take into consideration what
steps should be adopted towards receiving his
Excellency-John Morris, Esq, J.P, beiDg
elected to the chair.
It was first proposed that an address should
be presented to his Excellency on his arrival, _
expressing the great pleasure we felt in wel-
coming him to our district, and assuring his
Excellency of our warm attachment to her
Majesty the Queen ; that this address be read
and presented to his Excellency by Mr. Croft.
It was next proposed that two triumphal
arches be erected, one at the entrance of the
Îown, between the, telegraph office and Mr.
Byfield's store, .and i the other over the culvert
opposite Mr. William Braggett's new building
each bearing the word " Welcome ;" and that
the inhabitants go out and escort his Excellency
into Cassilis. 'AU Thursday morning the in-
habitants were high busy in making preparations
towards giving the town a gay appearance, and
by noon flag3 of every description had heen
hoisted upon all the principal buildings.
Shortly before three p.m. the inhabitants began
to assemble at the telegraph office, that being
the appointed placé \)f departure : at three,
upwards of fifty horsemen left the town, and
slowly proceeded along the Mudgee road for
about one mile, when his Excellency's carriage
was seen a short distance ahead, two gentlemen
leading the way, the rest falling in behind the
carriage. On reaching the first arch the pro-
cession halted. Mr. T. G. Croft, stepping for-
ward, read the following address :
" To his Excellency the Right Honorable
Somerset Richard, Earl of Belmore, a
member of her Majesty's most honorable

loyalty and warm attachment to the throne and
person of her most Gracious Majesty Queen
Victoria.
