Prahran Prevail
Harley in Goal-kicking

A steady wind favored the south

The Play
Prahran, using the wind, put Spain
in possession, and from a clean high
mark he dropped first goal.
Preston replied with a spirited attack.
Hume attempted a snap-shot
in front, but only scored a point.
Prahran were using every chance
on the forward line, picking out their
men with precision. Some nice passing
found Harley in possession.
He made no mistake about the goat.
Whiteley Just misled another major.
Surtccs and Taylor showed out In
some good work for Preston.
Tho backs wero getting it away
down tho right wing, but tho ball
could not pass the centre until Seebeck
brought It down.
Ellis was forced in front, and
kicked Preston's first goal.
Harley delighted the followers of
the home team by taking a high
mark in the teeth of the goals. His
punt Just found tho goal.
In tho next attack Whiteley was
awarded a kick on the boundary.

Praliran's fourth goal. Richardson,
in attempting to pick out Harley,
klckcd the ball short, but the Prahran
captain stooped to the nark and
screw punted his first goal.
Preston were wasting opportunities
by crowding play on tho forward line.
Play swept to the other end, and
stopped there until the end of tile
quarter, without Prahran scoring.

Pnhrasi's opening effort -was
stemmed by Sherman.
Taylor in turn stopped a Preston
attack. Osborne, from the centre,
passed to B. Jones. Harley goaled on
the run. The Preston hacks were
rattled and were kicking wildly.
Skipper was freed and sent it up to
Summers, who attempted a snap shot.
His kick went wide.
The Preston centre man had a long
kick with tho wind, and was rewarded
with a goal. Summers marked from
Ludlow In front, but he scored only
a minor.
Some rough play In front of Pres
ton's goal gave B. Jones a well deserved
free. A low kick was intercepted
and Seebeck cleared.
Hume got possession and kicked his
side's third goal.
Though favored by the wind, Preston's
kicking was still faulty, some
easy chances being miBsed. Hume
alone was dependable—he was forced
on .the boundary, anil scored a nice
angle goal.
Proctor put the ball in front
Preston's goal, V. Jones snapped It
up and goaled.
Play see-sawed to the other end,
where Hume again added a goal.
A little later he was In position for
the ball once more, and snapped his
fourth goal for the quarter.
Preston were now only six points
behind, and were playing with dash
and system. They came again, and
Warr equalised with a punt on the
run.
A. Ludlow put them ahead with a
long drop-kick.
A chain of short passes along the
grandstand wing ended with a goal
to Hume.
Preston were now & different team,
playing fast open football of the best
variety. They had converted a first
quarter deficit of 28 points Into an
advantage of IS points when the bell
rang.

of Preston.

Prahran were five points to the good.
Some hard play brought
the
ball

turning
cleverly,
added
thirteenth
goal.
Harley,

another.
The quarter
ended
with
Prahran leading by 18 points.

Prahran now attacked, Reynolds

Rush and Summers sealed for
Preston, reducing the difference
nine points.
Prahran were trying bard to add
another goal, but were uptnicceestul,
Snell hitting the post at the critical
moment.
Richardson, from a free in front,
