Rain Stops Sport
No Cricket Matches Today
Directors ct many sporting fixtures
in the city and country decided early
today that it would be too wet to
go on with their programmes.
All cricket matches today were postponed.
The matches arranged for
Monday will be played on that day if
the weather is fine. The Victorian
Junior Cricket Association semi-finals,
arranged to begin today, may be
played on Monday.
Courslns events were held at,
Craigieburn this afternoon. The White
City meeting for tonight has not been
postponed.
The Victoria Militia Union match
was postponed, as the range was under
water. In addition to the matches
set down for Monday, the following*
will also be fired: Hamel, Mont St.
Quentln and Lagnlcourt.
Senior cadet matches will be fired on
March 2S.
The cricket match between Carey
and Caulfield Grammar Schools at
Carey i this afternoon was postponed
until neart Wednesday afternoon. .
The annual swimming 6ports of the
Presbyterian Ladies' College were postponed
to a date to be fixed.
Colac Athletic Meeting
Postponed
COLAC. Saturday.—Becuuse of the!
heavy-rain overnight and today, the
annual sports carnival of the Colac-
St. Patrick's Day committee has been
postponed. The meeting will probably
be held on Saturday, April 18,
two weeks after the Stawell Gift. An
application is being lodged with the
Victorian Athletic League for this
date.
"\VJiep a postponement was decided
on «arly today, the secretary of the
club CMr J, Carney) got in touch
with the Railways Department, and
several of the runners were intercepted
at Geelong so that they could
return to Melbourne.
This is the second time-in 39 years
that the club has had to postpone its
carnlvul because of rain. As tne
meeting was not insured against rain,
the club will suffer a big ilnanclal
loss.
A deputation from the competitors
who had come to V^olac made a request
that the committee should reimburse
them for their expenses. It
was decided to hold a meeting of the
sports committee tonight to discuss
the matter.
SWIMMING KVKN'TS AT GEELONG
GEELONG, Saturday.—Cold, windy
squalls from the south, following
steady, soaking rain overnight, made
conditions Impossible for sport today,
Sti Patrick's Day sports were postponed,
until next Saturday, and Lara
