SWAN^HILL LEAGUE
' Influence of Chapman
The Swan Hill League, which was
formed recently, comprising clubs from
Plra to Kerang. has grown beyond all
expectations. Maurie Goonan, of Swan
Hill, writes:—"The League has grown
beyond all expectations. The gates have
grown from 30/ to as high as £45 in one
season, and recently in the first semifinal
between Lake Boga and Swan Hill,
the gate was £61. The game was won.
by Swan Hill.
"What helped lo boom the game so'
much was that four of the teams secured
coaches. Chapman, from Fitzroy made a
vast difference to the standard of the
game, and has -his men working like a
League side. He plays ruck and halfforward.
His stamina has gone back,
but he is still a beautiful kick and canl
torpedo goals from 60 yards out Swan
Hill have Bill Carey, who played with
Hawthorn for a while. He is not a brilliant
player, like Chapman, but he has
proved that he can coach a side, and has
team and makes them work very herd
at practice. My team, Tyntyndcr, arc
second on the list. Coaching was some-i
thing new to the people up here. Formerly
the football was like blackfel lows'
rugby."
