OAKLEIGH had their first win
for 1939 last week and gave
them great heart for their
match with Williamstown tO'
day. 'Town, in spite of their
defeat by Camberwell, are still
well in the fight for the finals
and were all out for another
win.

Attacking early, Williamstown cooperated
skilfully forward, where Paterson
and Vallence, making position,
scored two goals. Oaklelgh, retaliating,
fought goalward, where Campbell
dashed through to goal neatly.
With both teams using handball to
advantage, play was even. Driving
down the centre with clever co-oper-
atlon, Smith scored Oaklelgh's second,
and
when
a few seconds later
he
punted another, the home team was
ahead.
Rallying, Williamstown
made
peated onslaughts, which were coolly
relieved by Bell and Wilson.
Continuing the ding-dong struggle,
Vallence gained
his second,
putting
Town four points ahead, and quickly
followed with another.
Their fifth by Thomas further increased
tjie lead.
