INCIDENTS.
QUEENSCLIFF, Wednesday.
A drowning accident was narrowly
averted this afternoon at Point Lonsdale.
The wife and two young sons of the light
keeper, Mr. G. W. F. Stevens, were bath
ing near the Lonsdale pier, when the lads
espied an empty 'butter box floating out-
wards with the tide, which was flowing
strongly. They swam towards it, but soon'
got into difficulties, and tlie mother swam
out to rescue them. She was hampered by
the current, and both she and the boys
were noticed by tlie light keeper endeavor
ing to regain the shore. He at once sprang
overboard from the pier, but striking his
head on the sandy bottom be was also in
difficulties.
Two members of the R.A.E., Sappers A.
Currow and W. Patterson, plunged into
the water from the 'beach and managed to
rescue the whole family.
