Their enthusiasm never
reached fever heat. The
match was marred by
mistakes, wretched kicking
and fumbling.

Austen and Culpitt, both
sound in defenoe. stopped- Carlton
from forging further ahead
ERRATIC KICKING
There was little improvement
on the standard of play
after the interval, and weak
forward play and erratic kicking
cost Carlton many points.
Mooring stopped the rot from
a snap; Fletcher replied for
the Hawks, then Davles and
Balrd sent the Blues further
ahead with a goal each.

Albiston replied for the Hawks

were deciding factors in the
closing stages.
