C.T.A. CHILDREN'S FATlTY.
The Commercial Travallera' Association of -Victoria"
held a children's party in the Melbourne Town
Hall on last Saturday afternoon, and the large
hall was crowded with children of varying ages,
accompanied by their parents, friends, and chaperones.
The balconies, which afforded, a splendid
view of the proceedings, were crowded even up to
the clock in the south gallery. No attempt had
been made at decoration except for the C.T.A.'a
blue flag, which was draped in a prominent position
; but what was lacking in mural adornment
was more than compensated for by the heads ot
the visitors, for everybody was presented with a
gandy fancy cap. which he immediately put on.
The stately father, the kilted Highlander, and the
children, down to the baby in arms, were resplendent
in the multi-coloured headgear, and the hall
looked like a moving picture of Chinese lanterns.
The entertainment beiran at i o'clock in the afternoon,
and lasted till half-past eight. Between each
of the items on the programme dancing was in;,
ilulgcd in to the strains of the Melbourne Kilties
Hand, under the leadership of Mr. J. Ililey.
The afternoon was essentially one for the cbiirifen.
for there were Punch and Judy Show, conjuring,
performing dogs, amusing biograpli pictures,
and a distribution of sweets to all the youngsters
before leaving. Throughout the afternoon refreshments
Werc served by Mr. Skinner and his assistants
in the basement, where the fathers and the
grandfathers of the guests of Saturday Inst had #o
often sat down to ball suppers in the dayd gone
by, when Mayors acted as hosts. The whole afternoon
was a brilliant success, anl made a merry
red-letter day in the children's calendar. The
adults <J worked indefatdgably, and regained something
of their vanished youth in the pleasure of
attending to the little ones. The whole affair was
splendidly managed^without a hitch, thanks to the
efforts of ti:e committee of the Association and of
Mr. Jas. Davies, the secretary of the C.T.A.
