EUllOA CLUB.
PRESIDENT'S STAKES, WEDNESDAY, 28th
JUNE.
lion, judge, Ivlr. Mark Early ; lion, slipper, Mr. J.
Ferguson ; lion, see., Mr. G. M. Allen.
On my return from Yarrawonga I called in at
J-'uroa to lind out. how that newly formed elub had
managed their inaugural meeting on Wednesday, aud
was delighted to find they had had great success.
They had a capital attend«>2ce in most glorious
weather, and bares were specially rumerous at Balmaltum,
which was the scene of operations, and.
moreover, they were tremendously strong. Unfortunately,
the ground was awiully wet, and pedestrians
suffered accordingly, but their next meeting
in July will be on much better ground. The beating
was anything but satisfactory, as may be
gauged when it is said soiii'i forty or fifty hares
got away uncoursed.
The judging of Mr. Early is spoken of in the
highest terms, old courters all praising liis work,
whilst Mr. Ferguson's slipping was also appreciated.
The club is happy in having honorary officers for
tile principal positions, and Mr. G. M. Allen's services
wire also applauded, especially at the settling
in the evening at the North-Eastern Hotel, when
congratulatory speeches on the success of the inaugural
meeting were dulv received with approbation.
President A. II. Carkeek added 5 gus. to the
sweep of sixteen at a guinea and so well was his
representative, Balagula bv Major Booth—Narelle,
going that it looked as if the first stake wouid
remain in Euroa, but by some means, when on
good ground, he was seen to stop suddenly, and
it, was found he had ruptured th-.i tendon achilics
of his near leg. The stake was divided between
Messrs. O'Dwycr Bros.' bk w d Garfield bv Invcrgordon—Alannuh
and Mr. J. Wilson's f d Bright
Moon by The Blue Moon—Queenly, both the divid-
ers hailing from Tafcilk. Bright Moon had a grueller
of about 3 mins. before disposing of Lady
Senator, who was handicapped by the loss of a nail.
A friend who is thoroughly capable of knowing the
Points of a course most kindly supplies? me with
the following descriptions of the
PRESIDENT'S STAKES.—Fiist Round : Garfield
ied Guiding Tower by three lengths of the extreme
outer circle : the latter was the cleverer, but Garfield
always had his pace to the good in a 6hort
trial, and gained the flag. To a strong hace Lady
Frivol led Wee Lady five lengths, and put in some
nice work in the early part of the courss, when
Wee Lady look possession, and, working splendidly
in a long grueller, killed the hare, outworked
Lady Frivol, and won by a fair margin. Balagula
always had too much pace for Lady Slipper, and
won easily. F.arl was unsighted in the run up, and
in a long working trial Molly Tysoe was always
too good for her opponent. Bright Moon had too
;nuch pace for Days of Yore on a racy harb, which
took refuge in a log. Empress Royal dashed into
a w ire fence, which Lady Hcywood negotiated safely,
and scored three times before the former got
to business, then after a couple of exchanges Empress
Royal took command, and, working nicely in
a long course, won. Lady Senator won from Shenstone
Model, a course in which veiy little work
v.nii done. There was very little in the lead up
between Impudence and Captain' Frere, the latter
gaining it ; a splendid give-and-take trial ensued.
Captain Frere getting the flag.
First Tics : After the grueller Wee Lady had in
the first round, she had no chance of pacing Garfield
with a strong hare, the dog winning with a
lot in hand. Balagula was leading Molly Tvsoe
five lengths, when he suddenly stopped, the bitch
going on, working well, and winning ; when picked
uj) it was discoveied the son of Major Booth—Narelle
had unfortunately injured liis leg. Bright Moon
drew away live lengths from Empress Royal, and
in a good working trial was always faster than the
bitch. Lady Senator led Captain Frere four lengths,
the latter dwelling in slips : a long course ensued,
the Lady winning very easily.
Second Ties : Garfield led Molly Tvsoe four or
five lengths, and turned twice. Molly then got possession,
and was putting in some nice work, when
the hare took to covert ; the dog's early work
made him a winner. Bright Moon reached the hare
three lengths in front of Lady Senator ; a good
trial followed, which the dog w.on comfortably.
Final Course : GarCeld and Bright Moon divided,
inuch to the disappointment of the spectators.
