MR. T. W. BAILEY TO MISS E. M. MILLER.
A very interesting marriage was celebrated between
two well-known families at Trinity Church,
Kew, on Thursday, 10th March, between Mr.
Thomas Wilson Bailey, of Terinallum Station, Camperdown,
and Miss Evelyn May Miller, fifth daughter
of Mr. William Henry Miller, of St. Kilda. The
church was well filled with guests for the ceremony,
but, being Lenten time, there was no choral service,
only selections of organ music, and no decorations
except on the altar table, where tall silver
vases were filled with early chrysanthemums and
roses. The officiating clergymen were the Rev.
Canon Sadlier and the Rev. Canon Sutton.
The bride, who was given away by her father,
looked very graceful and pretty in a white satin
charmeuse, with overdress of ninon beautifully
embroidered with silver, crystal and pearl beads and
fine silk stitchery. Beneath the transparent, pintucked
yoke of tulle handsome pearl and crystal

motifs were set, meeting a high belt of the same
design. A wreath of dull chiffon and silver leaves
was worn, with a cluster of orange flowers to each
side of the face, over which fell a long veil of
fine bridal tulle. A bouquet of valley lilies,
azaleas, orchids and fine ferns was carried. The
bridesmaids were Miss Gladys Miller (sister of the
bride), Miss Oliver (daughter of Mr. William Oliver,
of South Yarra), Miss Taylor (of "Renny Hill",
Camperdown), Miss Ida Elder (daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. David Elder). The two little children who
preceded the bridesmaids, daintily dressed in soft
silk veiled with crystal and silver-spotted net,
trimmed with cable rouleaux of satin, were nieces
of the bride. Miss Evelyn Hyland (daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Hyland) and Miss Joyce Russell (daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. George Russell). They both
wore pretty granny bonnets of white panne. The
bridesmaids' dresses were also of soft cream satin,
with tablier overdresses of silver spotted point
d'esprit net, very prettily trimmed with rouleaux
of cream satin that formed effective fichu bodices,
with high belts of cream satin. They all carried
bouquets of deep crimson roses, the pretty contrast
carrying out the Miller racing colours. Cavalier hats
of black velvet were worn, rolled up from one side
of the face with cream wool flowers and long
leaves of the same design.
Mrs. W. H. Miller wore soft ninon over silk,
inlet with lace, opening over a small vest of fine
lace; a turban toque of tulle was worn, trimmed
with jet and plumes. Mrs. William Bailey (mother
of the bridegroom) wore black silk moire trimmed
with jet and fine lace; bonnet of tulle, trimmed
with gold embroidered lace and flowers. Mrs. Aubrey
Bowen (aunt of the bride) was in soft black and
white silk, trimmed with lace; bonnet of black and
white tulle, trimmed with gold roses and plumes.
Mr. Robert Ramsay, of "Moolaric", Birregurra,
was best man.
The guests were afterwards entertained at "Findon",
Kew. kindly lent by the aunt oi the bride
(Mrs. Aubrey Bowen). This house, which has been
the locale of so many marriages of well-known
members of the House of Miller, was well arranged
for the occasion and very prettily decorated, particularly
the ballroom, done in the Miller colours
(red and white). Over the tables, arranged to seat
parties of four and six, one large canopy of the
two-coloured ribbons was carried, with lines of
asparagus fern between. Beautiful palms filled in
the corners. The table decorations were of red
cactus dahlia and ferns, and the long table arranged
on the organ dais for the bridal party was done
entirely in red. The room adjoining the ballroom,
also laid for wedding tea, was done in the same
colouring. Even in the billiard-room, where the
presents were shown, the colours were most effectively
shown by cut red geraniums being placed on
the all-white covered tables.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller welcomed the guests at the
entrance of the large reception room, and the bride
and bridegroom stood on their right, in the recess
of a large window. The toasts were proposed as
follows: The Rev. Canon Sadlier proposed "The
Bride and Bridegroom," to which the bridegroom
responded and proposed "The Bridesmaids," for
whom Mr. Robert Ramsay responded. Sir Thomas
a'Beckett proposed the health of the bride's parents,
and during his speech responded very feelingly
to the historic recollections of "Findon", the late
residence of the bride's grandfather. Mr. W. H.
Miller responded. The Hon. Edward Miller proposed
"The Mother of the Bridegroom," who was
present, and for whom the Rev. Canon Sutton
responded. A very good programme of musical
selections was given during the tea, on the organ in
the ballroom. Rose leaves were handed round to
the guests, which they showered on the bride as
she left. Her travelling dress was of electric blue
smooth cloth, braided in the same shade: rustic
straw hat, trimmed with satin ribbon and roses,
The honeymoon is being spent in New Zealand. The
presents included—
From bridegroom to bride, diamond and pearl
pendant ; to bridesmaids, tourmaline, necklets.
