MR. GEORGE D. TREKARDO
One of Ballarat's best-known
citizens, Mr. George D. Trekardo,
passed away on October 12 after
a brief illness. For many years
he was associated with his brother,
Mr. J. H. Trekardo, in the
butchery business, and in recent
years on his own account in
Sturt-street.
In his younger days he was a noted
athlete, being a successful oarsman,
and was a' member of crews winning
a number of trophies at the Ballarat
and Victorian- regattas, and was also
successful at running and cycle riding.
As a professional dancer he was widely
known, and conducted classes at St.
Patrick's Hall for many years. He
continued teaching, and had just concluded
training his fifth debutante set
for the season. Requiem Mass was
celebrated at St. Patrick's Cathedral
by Rev. J. Brophy, P.P. (Stawell), and
also present were Very Rev. E. Glowrey
and Revs. J. H. Gleeson and J. Smith,
who also officiated at the graveside
in the New Cemetery. Amongst many
flora i tributes were wreaths from St.
John's Church of England Fellowship
and the Meat and Allied Trades
Federation. The casket-bearers were
Messrs. M. Heagney (brother-in-law),
W. Hunter, W. Goodall and W. Murray.
The chief mourners were Mrs. Trekardo
(wife), Mr. J. H. Trekardo (brother),
Misses S. and T. Heagney, Mr. and
Mrs. W. Heagney (sisters-in-law and
brother-in-law),
H. Trekardo, Mrs.
Davey and Miss T.
and nieces).
