DAHLIA BLOOMING.
There is reajly no necessity to lift
the dahlia tuber, at least no reason
connected with the health and vigour
of the tuber. If left in the ground it
starts into growth in September, and
blooms from the end of November.
The weakness in this is that the plant,
when in bloom, has to withstand hot
north wind days, and the sappy growth
cannot stand up against drying winds.
If planting is delayed until December,
the b'.ooining period starts after all fear
of hot winds is past, and the plants
carry their display through the autumn
—the proper period. Where continuity
of bloom is desired through the
summer, leave a few of the tubers in
the ground now and lift the rest.
