MEMORIES.
The shadows stretch across the silent
hill,
And, one by one, the cows come
straggling home;
For old time's sake, I've come to wander
still,
Here hy the creek, where once we
used to roam.
There stands the old white bridge
where last we parted,
I watched you till you sank behind
the hill;
You never dreamed you left me
broken-hearted,
Those years are fled, but how I
love you still!
The spot is just the same. Here oft
we rested;
This old tree then a broader
shadow cast;
The magpie's liquid warbling, as she
nested,
Still echoes from the happy, happy
"WALLACE.''
