KNITTED COAT FOR CHILD OF
TWO YEARS.
Required:—7 ozs. Pa ton's 4-ply
super fingering, and pair of 12 in.
hone needles, No. 10. •
For the Back—Cast on 100 stitches,
and knit 16 plain tows.
1st Bow.—* K. 2, p. 3 k. 2, p. 1, *,
and repeat, ending with k. 2, p. .1.
2nd Row.— K. 2, * p. 2, k. 1, p. 2,
k 3. *, and repeat from *, ending
with 'k. 3, p. 2.
3rd Row.—P. 2, * k. 2, p i, k. 2,
p. 3. and repeat from *, ending with
k 2
4th Row.—* P. 2, k- 3, p. 2, k. 1,
and repeat from *, ending with p. 2,
k- 2. , . x
5th Bow.—K. 2, p. 3, make a twist
thus:—Pass over the next stitch, and
knit the following one without removing
cither from the left needle, then
knit the one passed over, and remove
both. P. 1, and repeat, ending with
k. 2, p. 2. Repeat from 2nd row.
In the following row, decrease at the
beginning and end. Decrease in every
eighth row till the work measures 8
inches from the beginning. Then decrease
in every sixth row till the work
measures 12 "inches. Knit 11 inches
more without decreasing, and cast off
4 stitelies at the beginning of the two
following rows, and 2 stitches at the
beginning of the next two rows.
Knit in pattern till the work measures
16 inches. There should be G2
stitches on the needle. Knit 21
stitches in pattern, slip these on to a
thread or spare needle, cast off 20 for
the neck, and knit 14 rows in pattern
on the remaining stitches for shoulder.
Then increase 1 stitch at neck end at
the beginning of every alternate row,
(> times (27 on the needle). Cast on
18 at neck end of front.
1st Row—K. 8, * k. 1, p. 2, k. 3,
p. 2, *, and regeat from * to end.
Knit 17 more rows in pattern, with
the exception of the first eight stitches
at front edge, which are always
knitted plain. Oast on 8 stitches for
under arm, and knit 18 more rows in
pattern, then increase at arm hole end
every sixth row till there are 68
stitches. Continue in pattern till the
work matches the back. Knit 16 plain
rows and cast off. Pick up the first
21 'stitches left for the other shoulder,
and knit the other front to correspond.
Sleeve.—Cast on 44 and knit 24
plain rows. _ Knit in pattern for 24
rows, then increase at both ends of
every sixth row till the sleeve measures
10 inches, cuff included. Then, holding
the right side of the work towards
you, cast off 4, knit in pattern to end.
In the next row cast off 1, continue
in pattern to end.
Repeat these two rows three more
times, then cast off 1 stitch at the heginning
of every row till 35 stitches
are left. Cast off. Reverse the decreasing
for the other sleeve.
Collar—Cast on 68 stitches and knit
26 plain rows and cast off.
