MEN'S SOCIETY.
ON Wednesday evening, in St. Patrick's
Hall, a lecture on the great Irish orator,.
" Edmund Burke," was delivered by the Rev.
H. Watson, S.J., to a large and appreciative
audience. The chair was occupied by Mr.
William levers. The rev. lecturer dwelt
principally on the early studies and preparatory
training' of the future orator, then
briefly glanced at his brilliant Parliamentary
career, and concluded a highly instructive and
interesting lecture by reciting Burke's stinging
reply to Lord Lauderdale's attack on his
(Burke's) pension. A cordial vote of thanks
was accorded Father Watson, on the motion
of Mr. Martin Hood, seconded by Mr.
Joseph Ryan. A vote of thanks to the
chairman concluded the proceedings.
